Mandy Sutcliffe | Stepping Stones
Hand Pulled Screen Print
Image size: 54 cm x 77 cm
Paper size: A1
Edition of 26
Price: £300 unframed
Mandy Sutcliffe describes contemporary childhood, using a vintage storybook style. Sutcliffe strives to maintain the warm nostalgic feel, analogue drawing skill, and anatomical accuracy of traditional children's book illustrations. Sutcliffe's familiar style draws her audience in with universal themes of childhood innocence and wonder. Using contemporary references, Sutcliffe reflects the children of today, complete with wheelchairs, Nike swooshes, hijabs and Sea Salt sandals. You can often hear her talking to her subjects as she works from her studio in Bristol!
'One of the secrets of life is to make stepping stones out of stumbling blocks’ Jack Penn.
“I was working on this artwork just as covid hit, a huge stumbling block! For a long time I couldn't go back to it, but after lots of small steps, I now love the uplifting nature of this print. The children helping each other to move across the space, looking back to see if others are ok, some nervous, some excited others quietly caught up in the moment, but all moving slowly & safely in the right direction”
This artwork is also available to purchase via Own Art for £30 per month. To request an Own Art application or for more information about the Own Art process contact rebecca@woolwichprintfair.com
