Etching

Media Dimensions: 21 x 30 cm

Image Dimensions: 14 x 20 cm

Edition of 20

Framed/unframed

John Sexton’s prints can be seen as an extension of his earlier three-dimensional work in the sense that they both deal with ways of defining space and form. The images he produces, though sometimes depicting a single isolated object, more often refer to the built environment, sometimes existing sites sometimes contrived, and explore ideas of inside/outside, containment and the possibility of passage. These ideas are conveyed by the development of both light and tone through a process of mark-making , sometimes with the addition of photographic imagery and other scanned material. The resulting digital images are then progressed into intaglio prints using the photo etching process and at this point further manipulation may take place. Sexton gained an NDD at Special Level in sculpture in 1965 and later graduated from Goldsmiths college with an MA in Fine Art in 1982. He was also awarded a Churchill Fellowship in 1972. Recently, he has exhibited his prints at the Morley Gallery, The Embankment Gallery, and the Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair 2023.
