The human skeleton is the basic frame through which Carol examines the relationship of humans to their surroundings. Bones are essential in reconstructing who we are and where we come from. Through processes of dismantling, zooming in and reassembling, she searches for new formations exploring how we understand our physical and temporal human existence; how we relate to our environment and question our impact on and synergy with the planet we currently inhabit. She uses printmaking, drawing, photography and film to create the components for her art installations. ***The Mind Has Mountains*** is part of a series of large scale etchings presented as triptychs. They reveal structures from within the human skull. The images evoke a mountainous landscape, especially rock and stone formation reminiscent of the alpine region where the artist grew up. Originally developed for an exhibition in the library of John Ruskin House in Brantwood (UK), they offer a space for thought and reflection, creating a landscape of the mind, a place in which our consciousness – the very essence of ourselves – resides Carol Wyss grew up in Liechtenstein and now lives and works in London. Since graduating in 1998 with an MFA from the Slade University College London, she has won several prizes including the John Ruskin Prize and the City & Guilds Print Prize. A founding member of the artist collective @geographies_of_print and a member of the London Group, Carol exhibits regularly internationally and important private and public collections have acquired her work.
