Lucy Cooper is a Brighton-based printmaker who creates limited edition silkscreen prints. Her style is contemporary, stripped back of detail, with a focus on colour and form.
The screenprinting process itself both informs and develops her work, encouraging her to deconstruct and simplify the subject in order to focus on the interplay of colours, shapes and negative spaces. She enjoys exploring uplifting and sometimes unexpected combinations of colour and pattern to reinterpret familiar sights.
Lucy’s subject matter typically comprises imagined or re-envisaged views or still lifes, highlighting organic forms against an abstracted background. She likes presenting scenes which evoke memories of much-loved places or objects, inviting viewers to be transported to the calm and warmth of sunny places or be reminded of the beauty of familiar settings.
