“Through to the Citz and The Gorbals through Laurieston are two new series of copperplate etchings I made based on an artist residency with Page\Park architects in Glasgow. We collaborated on the development of blocked up railway arches to create a new walkway between the communities of Laurieston and Hutchesonston, divided by the railway viaduct running through the Gorbals area of the city. These etchings are based on the sketches and conversations we had during the project, as well as the experience of walking through the sculptural corten steel passageway upon its completion.”
Rachel Duckhouse (1975, UK) studied at Leeds College of Art and Winchester School of Art before moving to Glasgow where she now lives and works. Selected group shows include: Manifest, Secrist Beach, Chicago (2024); Prendre Le Soleil, Hangar Y, Paris (2023); Reduct: Abstraction and Geometry in Scottish Art, Royal Scottish Academy, Edinburgh (2020).
She’s undertaken artist residencies in Canada, Australia, France and the UK and has worked on public art commissions including the entrance gates of Edinburgh Printmakers. Her work has been acquired by The British Museum, Great Ormond Street Hospital in London and The Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York.
