The work is a collaboration between Chris Roantree and Akarsh Kummattummal both artists are fascinated by narratives of the past and there relationship between the artists two cultures. The series attempts to visually locate their own very separate cultural/geographical history’s finding sociopolitical and environmental pressures as the lens they find themselves looking through. This rather epic almost diaristic undertaking draws heavily on early engravings and drawings, referencing explorers sketchbooks, historical encounters and visions in an attempt to retrieve back into modern view. The work is manifested in the printroom. The back and forth aspects of collaboration are essentially solidified within the etching plate serving as a visual punctuation to the ongoing conversation between these two artists. Chris Roantree graduated from the Royal College in 2002 where he specialised in etching. Since then he has won numerous awards and teaches etching at the renown City&Guilds of London Art School print room. He has exhibited internationally and undertaken residencies in Paris and Central America where his sculptural work resides in a Land art park on boarder of Guatemala. Akarsh is a successful Artist whose career has spanned advertising, concept art and is currently working as an Art director for ground breaking video games company.
