Misa creates images with enigmatic motifs and gestural marks, gracefully oscillating on the boundary between semi-abstraction and vaguely recognisable figurative or landscape. Misa has found herself increasingly drawn to the discourse of ecology and our interconnectedness. She acknowledges the existence of domains in nature that transcend human senses and conceptions and finds inspirations from imaginative stories and myth as well as poetries. For her, the act of creation serves as a means to explore the enigmatic realm and elusive connections we have with each other and nature, and moreover, the profound idea of how one is to exist in this world. Having grown up in Japan, Misa has always felt her everyday life was intertwined with the way of nature. Her work addresses the theme of affinity with and reverence to nature - the more than human world. Following in the quietly meditative tradition of Japanese nature paintings, she seeks to capture invisible energy or spirits flowing in nature.
