Driven with a passion for colour and pattern Julia Vogl is always experimenting and wanting to push print. **Pulsing Blue (Penelope's Weaving Rhythm)** is part of a series she started while on residency at Kypseli Print Studio in Athens Greece in 2022. She is fascinated in how to capture movement and moments in the static. This work reflects Athenian light and colour and the Greek myth of Penelope. She wove a grieving shawl for Odysseus everyday he was gone, and unravelled it every evening, holding on to the hope he would return. Vogl, is an internationally exhibited American and British artist. In 2011 she received her MA at Slade School of Art, UCL London and has since been commissioned by institutions including Tate (2018), ITV (2019), Facebook (2019), Hull 2017 City of Culture, Wellcome (2019), Royal Borough of Kingston (2023), and is currently Artist in residence at Winchester School of Art (2023/2024). Her prints have been included in the Royal Academy Summer Show (2021/2023). Vogl is the recipient of the Aesthetic Art prize in 2011 and has been recognised by the American for the Arts Public Year in Review 2012, 2016 and 2019. She is best known for her large-scale public art social sculptures. For 18 years Vogl has been a dedicated screen printer, teaching at Sonsoles Print studio in London and now leading the Print department at Winchester School of Art.
