Juanjo Barreda was born in Castellón (Spain) in 1971, and studied Industrial Engineering at ICAI Madrid and École Centrale Paris. In 1996 he moved to New York to start painting and take some courses at the School of Visual Arts and at the Art Students League. Main focus on abstract painting. In 1998 he moved back to Madrid and completed a Degree in Graphic Design at the CEV Escuela Superior de Comunicación, Imagen y Sonido. He worked as a graphic designer at CrazyLabs, while writing a 212 pages fiction essay called ‘IM54 / Immigrant manual 2054’. He also taught ‘Multimedia Creation Tools’ courses at ICAI for two years. In 2000 he completed a Degree in Illustration at ESDIP Escuela de Arte Madrid. In 2005 he launched Nonoloa, a urban clothing brand based on collaborations with a wide range of urban artists such as: Eltono, Eno Henze, Gabriel Moreno, Nano 4814, Jean Paul Thurlow, Eva Solano, Boris Hoppek, {ths} … He continued doing illustration works. In 2013 he moved to London, where he continued painting abstraction works and started painting portraits. He also started performing at some dance projects, such as ‘On falling & recovering’ by Hagit Yakira [2016], and creating some textile artworks, like ‘Numochi’, in collaboration with costume designer and performer Lula Land.
