Fouzia makes images of objects and places that hold memories for her. ‘Turkish Delights, Arlington Baths, ” is one of a series of over 40 etchings exploring her time as a member of one oldest Victorian Baths in Europe. Fouzia employs the concept of play to develop the use of unusual materials, tools and processes to create images. Photography and collage are often intermediate stages in her practice where play allows images to be deconstructed and then reinvented using the etching process. Her work explores the themes of memory, family histories, migration and absence. Fouzia’s figureless interiors and looming objects create a nostalgic ghostly atmosphere and point to traces of humanity. Shape, pattern and texture are celebrated in these prints, helping explore the histories these places hold. Fouzia graduated from the City & Guilds of London Art School in 2013 with an MA in Fine art with distinction and was elected as a full member of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers in 2018. Upon graduating she received the Gwen May Student Award from the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers and was shortlisted for the Clifford Chance Printmaking Award. Fouzia was voted Printmakers’ Printer at Cumbria Printfest in 2015. This year she was awarded the Haigh Award at Printfest and shortlisted for the Flourish Award 2024. She exhibits widely both nationally and internationally. Highlights include: The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition & Print Fair, The Royal Scottish Academy and the National Original Print Fair. Her work is held in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum, Ashmolean Museum and Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum.

  • Our pioneering exhibition model of 50% specialist galleries and 50% independent artists is unique in supporting artists who may not have the opportunity to show in an international art fair which generally rely on gallery representation.

WCPF's global art platform hosts an open call that gives artists the cchance to have their work reviewed by a panel of leading industry experts, with successful artworks going on to show in the Fair's 'Curated Hang' section alongside celebrated names and work from renowned galleries.

This exposure provides further opportunities for artist awards, prizes and residencies, to significant acquisitions and gallery representation.

  • Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair only deals in original prints and does not work with reproduction prints which are copies of other artworks, and where the term 'print' can be misunderstood.

An ‘Original Print’ is a work of art that was conceived as a print in its first instance, as opposed to a reproduction of another original work.

This means the artist has set about to create a print, whether it is an etching, mono-print, lithograph etc. rather than simply taking a photograph or scan of an existing artwork and printing out a number of ‘reproduction’ prints like a poster. The artist decides on the number of editions within the print run and number each accordingly (eg. 1/30). There is no difference in value between the first and the last print within the edition as each one is an original artwork.

Once all editions have been printed the matrix is destroyed or repurposed so no others can be made.
