Barbara Kuebel suggests that material impacts culture and is instantly understood within an originating context. Kuebel’s preferred medium is wood because of its obvious presence in the alpine regions of Switzerland and Austria – the regions where Barbara Kuebel grew up and lived. Eventually material is more important to her than subject matter and she claims that the “landscape” of the blocks defines the process of printing by hand. Her prints do not refer to life scenes but to the idea of aligned monochrome shadows. In this new series Kuebel displays private scenes of couples bound together like a knot. She created these quick sketchy scenes by using the knife like a pencil. Kuebel graduated From Academy of Fine Art Vienna with two MMag.art. degrees, painting and art education. She has taken part in various fairs and exhibitions. Highlighted is the show at Ferrara Showman gallery, New Orleans, the Art on Paper Fair in New York and the group show at Rhodes Contemporary. Her works are popular in private collections and are part of interio-designs such as for SOHO Home, London in collaboration with Riseart. She is represented by Ferrara Showman Gallery, New Orleans - USA
