Tony Carlton is an award winning artist from Calderdale. He has a passion for art for as long as he can remember and was always found as a child with a pencil in his hand doodling and drawing. This passion led him to study for a Fine Art BA Hons degree at the University of Wolverhampton where he discovered his love of printmaking. He went on to complete a Masters in printmaking at Camberwell College of Art in London. Tony went on to work for almost 20 years at the Wallace Collection museum in London surrounded by the very best paintings and objects in the world. He has since moved back up North to his birthplace of Todmorden to concentrate more on his passion for printmaking. These Woodcut prints was derived from Tony's many walks around Calderdale. Since moving back to the north Tony finds himself with a bit more time and when he's not printmaking he will be off out walking on the hills or in the woods. Tony will often do a few quick sketches and take lots of quick photographs in the hope of a surprising result. These woodcuts come from such photographs and sketches, the bare dark trees, brambles, snow on the ground, reflections in the water are transformed into hand carved woodcuts and all hand printed. Tony has exhibited widely since leaving London with a number of Group shows, exhibiting independently and also with the Inkers a Yorkshire printmaking group. His prints are in many private and public collections including HSBC, Barclays, Wolverhampton Museum and Art Gallery.
