Woods have always been a place of in-betweenness - somewhere one might slip from one world to another or one time to a former’ (R.Macfarlane). Fouhy’s current work explores how we are drawn towards parts of the forest as if being gently pulled by a magnet. She is interested in unseen forces around us - gravity, magnetic north, ultraviolet, sounds that human ears cannot hear and colours that human eyes cannot see. Fouhy explores how to work by intuition and emotional reaction to the forest environment, predominantly using monotype techniques with etching inks, extender, rags and large rollers to create fast, expressive images. These processes, materials and chance inform and evolve her practice. She has developed techniques of layering ink, creating a strong depth of field, which she uses to draw the viewer into the all-encompassing world of the forest. Fouhy’s work has received several awards and is held in public and private collections in the UK and internationally. She studied at the University of Manchester and Central St Martins and is represented by Eames Fine Art Gallery and Rachel Bebb Contemporary. She a keyholder and tutor at East London Printmakers.
