Claire Mont Smith

£0.00
Claire Mont Smith has been practising in East London as an artist for over 50 years. She has a BA Fine Art from Reading University, an MFA from Chelsea College of Art and an MA in Contemporary Art Theory from Goldsmiths. She studied etching at the Royal Drawing School, and was until recently Chair of East London Printmakers. She has exhibited widely, including at Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair since 2018, and her work is represented in the collections of the V&A, University of Sussex, Devon County Council and London Borough Tower Hamlets. Although often abstract in form, Claire’s art is always concerned with the material world that surrounds us – atmosphere, environment, surface, texture, natural forms. Stories from science, history, nature, the everyday run through it, as do ideas of vulnerability, eternality, longevity. ‘Forgotten River’ screenprint series is a reflection on the primeval spiritual and physical significance of river and ocean, and the imagined aquatic life in their depths.
