R James Healy was born in the North of England. He grew up immersed in art, TV and electronic music during the heyday of home computing. His experiments with the Commodore Amiga personal computer ignited a passion for animation. This led him to the National Centre of Computer Animation (United Kingdom), where he attained a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Computer Animation and Visualisation in 1998.
Following graduation, Healy collaborated with major visual effects studios in the UK, Canada and USA. He contributed to a wide array of productions including commercials, music videos and feature films. As CG and VFX supervisor his contributions have received a D&AD Pencil (Atoms for Peace. Before Your Very Eyes) and a British Animation Award (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: The Tale of The Three Brothers).
